Not nothing...

Ok, I haven't been a prolific blogger but I have created a few things over the past few months. In fact there is one BIG project that is taking months to finish! I will be well happy when it's over I can tell you. I'm not sharing until it's done but so I can remind myself of the lessons learned from this adventure I'm going to leave a few notes here;
- always try out the circular saw before you waste money on special jigsaw or handsaw blades
- put something solid directly under the hole when you are drilling with a forstner bit
- don't rush the sanding and finishing even though you hate it
- hinges need to be nearly perfect
- your projects always take longer than you estimate!

I made these a little while ago.  One is a raspberry polenta cake and the other a dobos torte.  I'll have time for baking again one day soon.....

Kookies

Another late night birthday cookie session. I really do have to learn to bake and decorate on different days.  I also need to invest in some real piping equipment because spoons and toothpicks just don't cut it. Anyway, I believe having baked cookies twice now shows my true dedication.  I am deserving of a shopping trip for some real tools and equipment don't you think? Happy birthday K.

The sweetest gal ever....

We loved having our beautiful Melburnian friend stay with us on her first visit to RADelaide. I purchased this wool a couple of years ago with the intention of knitting her a Martha Stewart neck scarf and finally got around to finishing one off over the weekend.   Here she is modelling it while enjoying a morning coffee at Delish.  Isn't she just lovely!  Come back soon Ms Walton.

Not my valentine, Paula's!

I forgot to post about my strange valentine.  Paula had decided to bypass the regular valentine gift ritual until I ended up agreeing to purchase a present for her beloved.  I'm still not sure how that happened. But it didn't feel right purchasing a loving gift for someone I didn't know, so the gift cake was born.  This was my first adventure into sugar biscuits and I quite liked it. I have been inspired by Sweet Sugarbelle's  amazing creations but I would need far more practice and better equipment to do anything even near what she creates. Not much room on my list for another craft infatuation. Why oh why do I have to go to work everyday......

Shearing for summer

I haven't had much time off work to do any creating this month (it's going to be one hectic year at the training department), so I had a little creative fun with Mr Smith's head while giving it the annual summer shave.  It looks quite good when it's dried properly.  He's worn it to work the last two days and I'm a little afraid it might be staying awhile....

Love is......

I am very very lucky to have a wonderful, intelligent, caring husband who is easy on the eye to boot.  I love you Mr Smith.  You deserve to be loved wholeheartedly in return.

Birthday fishing....

What do you do when the birthday boy goes fishing on his 40th birthday instead of attend his families not so surprise surprise party? You throw a surprise fish themed birthday party 4 days later when he thinks everyone has forgotten! Paula the party planner strikes again. My contribution was a little fishy thanks to some excellent internet inspiration. Happy Birthday Steve!

2012 start as you mean to go on......

Fabulous night on the town with husbando. It's been years since I have wanted to do anything for new years eve but with such a gloriously warm evening, fireworks on the riverbank and dodgy tribute bands playing on the balcony at the casino I was raring to get my pins out, put my heels on and have a little boogie for old time sake. Making sure we only took a slim drink fund meant that we woke up bright eyed this morning as well. I can't believe that I've never seen Mr Smith's Jagger impersonation on the dance floor, it cracked me up. He's really got some groove and I love getting groovy with him. I always shed a little tear at the striking of the bells on new years eve and as I watched the fireworks I was a little sad at the passing of a great year. Today though it's straight to 2012 and I've started the year the way I mean to go on - by spending 8 hours in my sewing room! I picked up some crazy cheap clearance fabric last week and half price patterns so now is the time for improving my very limited dress making skills.
I've nearly finished my first garment and even though the pattern says "easy" it's been some learning curve! Not sure I'll actually wear it but as the fabric only cost me $4.75 it's a cheap sewing lesson anyway. 2012 - the year of sewing I think.
